This indenture made this 21st. day of April in the year of our lord one
thousand eight hundred and twenty-nine between Joseph May
Sarah his wife, of the county of Rockingham and State of Virginia
of the one part and James May of the said County and State afore-
said of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Joseph May and Sarah
his wife and for and in consideration of the sum of fourteen dollars to them in
hand paid by the said James May the receipt which is hereby acknowledged
have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain
and sell to the said James May and his heirs and assigns all their undi-
vided one fourteenth part of and in one certain tract or parcel of land
lying and being in the county of Rockingham near the head of Brooks Gap
and containing one hundred and thirty one acres be the same more or
less and was granted to George May Senr by pattan (s/b patent??) dated October the 10th
1804 all which will fully appear by the records of the County Court of said
county and the said George May having departed thus intestate the said
land divided unto his children namely George, John, Molly, Daniel, An-
drew, James, Jacob, Joseph, Abraham, Samuel, Isaac, Elizabeth, Henry and
Benjamin May his heirs and legal descendants together with all and sing-
ular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to
have and to hold the said individual one fourteenth part of the said tract
of land with its appurtenances unto the said James May and his heirs
and assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said
James May and his heirs and assigns forever and the said Jacob May and
Sarah his wife for their heirs, executors and administrators doth covenant
with the said James May his heirs and assigns that they the said
Joseph May and Sarah his wife and their heirs executors and admin-
nistrators, the said undivided fourteenth part of the said land with
its appurtenances unto the said James May and his heirs and assigns
against the claim, claims of them the said Joseph May and Sarah
his wife and their heirs and of all and every person or persons what-
soever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents
in witness whereof the said Joseph May and Sarah his wife have
herewith set their hands and seals on the day and year first a-
bove written.
